What does the Toothfriendly logo symbolize? The Toothfriendly logo was created in 1982 on an initiative of the Swiss University Dental Faculties to distinguish products that are safe to teeth, i.e. are non-cariogenic and non-erosive.
Which products may use the Toothfriendly logo?Only products that are demonstrably safe for the teeth may carry the Toothfriendly symbol of quality. Foods and beverages can be considered safe for teeth if they are neither cariogenic nor erosive. These "toothfriendly" properties are determined in a standardized in vivo plaque-pH telemetry test conducted by independent University Dental Institutes. Therefore, all products which carry the Toothfriendly logo have been scientifically tested.
The non-profit organization Toothfriendly International grants the rights for the use of the Toothfriendly logo on the label and in the advertising of products. All licensing fees are directed at dental health promotion and social programs carried out by the Toothfriendly Foundation.
The "Toothfriendly Labeling Guide" contains a summarized explanation of the quality criteria and application procedure, including visual guidelines on how our logo should be used.
